Continuing Education

Office Hours
Continuing Education office hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.

Business Management
NIACC helps employees learn how to effectively communicate, manage workplace stress, delegate effectively, understand motivational concepts, manage time, and build leadership skills for maximum organizational effectiveness.

Community Education
NIACC has established partnerships with local communities and school districts. Five community education centers remove the distance barriers and provide lifelong learning opportunities. Most centers have an advisory board and operations board comprised of community members who provide insight for local program and facility planning.

Computer Skills
Computer proficiency is a vital part of staying competitive in today’s business world. NIACC can provide the highest quality and most cost-effective computer training in North Iowa. Classes may be offered online, live online, on campus and/or a work site.

Health and Wellness
The Continuing Education Department provides a wide range of health-related education opportunities such as licensing/relicensing requirements for various boards. A variety of courses for the general public are also available. For the convenience of the student, a mix of traditional, online, and hybrid course delivery methods are used. For more information on courses in Long Term Care, American Heart Association and Emergency Medical Services, click here

Lean Enterprise
A Lean Enterprise uses a systematic approach to eliminating waste and producing what your customers want when they want it. It does not matter if your business is a service or a manufacturer, NIACC can implement Lean principles into your workplace. Curriculum is available that specializes in manufacturing, process, office and health care environments.

Work-Based Learning
Work-Based Learning is a partnership between businesses and secondary and post-secondary educators and training providers. It helps students develop new skills and connections through things like industry tours and field trips, job shadows, class projects, cooperative work experience, internships, apprenticeships, and on-the job work that are embedded into classwork.

Registered Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce. Students can fast track their career goals and earn a competitive wage.

Lifelong Learning Institute
NIACC offers the opportunity for adults to become a member of the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI), a community of adults of all ages who learn for the joy of learning without grades, tests, or homework. LLI serves people of all educational backgrounds and provides the perfect way to expand knowledge while meeting other like-minded adults. The focus of the LLI is on enjoyment, friendship and college-level learning. Members can take advantage of short courses, lectures and discussions, study circles, social events, civic engagement opportunities and more. Topics for the courses are based on member requests and interests. Class length varies from one session to 12 weeks of class depending on the course content and instructor. A $99 annual membership fee provides members with a variety of classes to choose from along with additional membership benefits. There is no additional tuition for LLI courses, lectures and study circles.

Manufacturing Skills and Processes
NIACC can help industries educate new employees or advance the skills of current employees about new processes, procedures and technologies. Standardized offerings include courses through the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), the National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM), and the American Society of Quality (ASQ).

Online, ICN and Facilities
With Continuing Education’s availability of more than 500 courses delivered online, a company can benefit from programs across the country. Web conferencing software such as Zoom, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams allow employees to attend seminars and workshops in interactive classrooms and take some courses without leaving town.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of North Central Iowa is part of a national volunteer network for people 55 and older called AmeriCorps Seniors.  Locally, RSVP is sponsored by NIACC and part of the Continuing Education department.  The program partners with a variety of non-profit organizations, including elementary and middle schools, throughout a six-county area.  RSVP Volunteers use their skills, talents, and life experience to help meet community needs through volunteer service.  RSVP serves the counties of Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Hancock, Mitchell, Winnebago, and Worth.

State Funded Programs
The Iowa Jobs Training program (260F) invests in customized training for existing employees. The program is designed to provide funding to train or retrain a company’s workforce. The Iowa New Jobs Training Program (260E) assists businesses that are creating new positions. The program is designed to lower the cost of job creation and training. Companies must qualify under the parameters of the programs to receive assistance.
