A coach is a person who holds a coaching authorization or coaching endorsement from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, and who evaluates, assists, or directs student learning of an interscholastic athletic endeavor at a practice session or on the field of competition. The coaching authorization class sequence is offered online throughout the year.
Upon successful completion of the Coaching curriculum with a grade point average of 2.00 (C) or higher, the student is awarded a Certificate.
Proof of current CPR certification is required in order to receive the coaching authorization from the state of Iowa. CPR certification can be earned within PEH - 140 First Aid or by taking CPR training through a reputable organization. A listing of CPR courses is available through NIACC Continuing Education.
In order to receive a coaching authorization from the state of Iowa, the student must submit a transcript as a record of credits and proof of current CPR certification to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
