EGR - 274 Statics for Engineering (3 s.h.)
Prerequisite: EGR - 115 Engineering Mathematics or MAT - 210 Calculus I . Prerequisite/Corequisite: PHY - 212 Classical Physics I . The students will learn about scalar and vector quantities; forces, moments of forces, couples, and force systems; equilibrium; centroids and centers of gravity; analysis of structures; internal forces, shear and bending moments; friction; moments of inertia of areas. This knowledge will be used to analyze the structural requirements of simple mechanical systems; including beams, trusses, frames, and machines.
