PTA - 190 Physical Agents (4 s.h.)
Prerequisite: PTA - 110 Fundamentals for PTA . Corequisite: PTA - 131 PTA Clinical Application and PTA - 151 Pathophysiology . Prepares the student for safe and effective application of modalities in patient treatment. This course prepares the student to use physical agents for patient treatment. Mechanisms of action, indications, precautions, contraindications and treatment procedures will be covered for the following: superficial heat, deep heat, electromagnetic radiation, cold, external compression, massage, biofeedback, whirlpool, wound care, traction and electrical stimulation. Pain rating and skin assessment procedures will also be included. Students will practice applications in lab.
