HSC - 174 Nurse Aide Clinical (1 s.h.)
Entrance Requirements: (1) Must be 16 years or older. (2) Strength and endurance to meet the Iowa Core Performance Standards for Health Care Career Programs, which include skills such as lifting and moving residents. (3) High school diploma or HSED (Note-if you are currently in high school, you must submit a letter of acknowledgment from your high school counselor). (4) Health History Self-Assessment. (5) Current immunization records are required prior to beginning clinical. Immunization requirements include a current TB test, Hepatitis B vaccine, or the signing of a hepatitis B vaccine waiver. (6) A criminal clear criminal and adult abuse background check must be initiated prior to the start of HSC - 130 Nurse Aide Theory . (7) A clear criminal and adult abuse check will be required prior to entering clinical; the cost is included in the tuition. (8) Successful completion of HSC - 130 Nurse Aide Theory . Corequisite: HSC - 130 Nurse Aide Theory . The Nurse Aide course has been revised to meet the training requirements of The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA) for aides working in nursing facilities (NF) and skilled nursing facilities (SNF). Emphasis in the course is on the students achieving a basic level of knowledge and demonstrating skills to provide safe, effective resident care. A minimum of 30 hours will be scheduled for a supervised clinical experience. The clinical setting shall be a nursing facility and the supervisor shall be the course teacher or their official designee. During the experience the students will be assigned to provide care to one or more residents. Clinical evaluations will be completed and reviewed with the students at the completion of the experience.
