The CLIMB READY – Wind Technician Program at RTC offers college entry students a comprehensive and immersive training experience designed to equip them with the essential safety and technical skills needed for a successful career in the wind energy industry. Emphasizing safety and technical proficiency, the program ensures graduates are well-prepared to meet industry demands and excel in their careers. Upon successful completion, participants will gain comprehensive knowledge of wind career safety, covering OSHA 10, first aid, manual handling, fire awareness, working at heights, control of hazardous energy, and hoist user training. The technical skills training includes mechanical, electrical, bolt tightening, and hydraulics competencies. Additionally, graduates will earn several key industry certifications: the NFPA 70E Low Voltage Qualified Certificate, HSI First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate, OSHA 10-hour Certificate, and the GWO BST Certificate, verified by WINDA. The GWO BST Certificate encompasses training in working at heights, first aid, fire awareness, and manual handling, ensuring participants are thoroughly prepared for the demands of the wind energy sector.

Skills: Wind turbine technicians, also known as wind techs, require a diverse set of skills to effectively maintain, troubleshoot, and repair wind turbines. Physically, they must possess strength and stamina to ascend ladders to turbine nacelles while carrying tools and equipment, navigate confined spaces, and manage heavy lifting. Technical proficiency is essential, encompassing a deep understanding of turbine mechanics, hydraulic and electrical systems, as well as proficiency in troubleshooting and basic software and computer operations. Additionally, wind techs must demonstrate attention to detail, strong communication abilities for teamwork, and adaptability to work at heights and in challenging conditions such as adverse weather. Strict adherence to health and safety protocols, including the use of protective gear like helmets, harnesses, gloves, and safety glasses, is also crucial in their role.
