This course is designed for individuals seeking training with electrified vehicles (xEVs) and covers two levels of expertise. Level One focuses on safety awareness regarding high-voltage electrical hazards. It teaches participants how to identify and reduce risks when working near electrified propulsion vehicles and their high-voltage components. Level Two provides in-depth knowledge of the construction, operation, and repair of high-voltage vehicles. This level emphasizes maintaining a safe work environment, using personal protective equipment (PPE), identifying and reducing electrical hazards, and performing proper “safe down” procedures to verify no voltage is present before repairing high-voltage systems.
Length: 36 contact hours
Instruction: In person
Background check: No
Entrance Requirements
Must be a current automotive student at NIACC or a current automotive technician.
Career Opportunities
Career opportunities for electric vehicle (EV) technicians are expanding rapidly as the automotive industry shifts towards sustainable transportation. EV technicians play a crucial role in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of electric vehicles, ensuring their optimal performance and longevity. With the increasing adoption of electric cars by consumers and governments’ initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, demand for skilled EV technicians is on the rise. Opportunities exist in various sectors, including automotive dealerships, specialized EV service centers, and fleet management companies. EV technicians diagnose electrical and mechanical issues, perform routine maintenance tasks like battery checks and software updates, and handle complex repairs involving EV systems and components. As the EV market grows, so do opportunities for career advancement, specialization in emerging technologies like autonomous driving and energy storage systems, and leadership roles in EV service operations. Pursuing a career as an EV technician not only offers job stability but also allows individuals to contribute to the global transition towards sustainable transportation solutions.
Students who complete the Automotive Service Excellence xEV program will receive a certificate in ASE xEV High-Voltage Electrical Safety.
