Coaching Certificate

Students interested in obtaining a Coaching Authorization or Coaching Endorsement (K-12 teachers) through the State of Iowa can complete the Coaching Certificate at NIACC to satisfy the course requirements needed for part of the submission to the Iowa Department of Education. The courses will provide a foundation in coaching theories, ethics, anatomy and physiology of the human body related to sports, athletic growth and development, along with the care and prevention of common athletic injuries. The Coaching Certificate courses are offered online/hybrid throughout the year. The Care and Prevention course requires attendance at a taping session on campus; and there is an option to add on Adult CPR certification to the taping session.

In order to receive a Coaching Authorization (required for all paid and volunteer junior high and high school coaches) in the State of Iowa, the student must submit a transcript with a record of credits and proof of current CPR certification to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. Students will not be able to begin coaching junior high or high school athletes until they have obtained a Coaching Authorization or Endorsement (K-12 teachers) through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.

Upon successful completion of the Coaching curriculum with a grade point average of 2.00 (C) or higher, the student is awarded a Certificate.
