MFG - 408 Basic Diemaking (8 s.h.)
Prerequisite/Corequisite: MFG - 424 Jig and Fixtures . This course is a continuation of MFG - 424 Jig and Fixtures , with instruction and practice in building a progressive or compound die. Emphasis is placed on the tool building procedures learned in MFG - 424 Jig and Fixtures , and toward fabricating dies. Instruction is given on the considerations involved in developing die components, such as calculation of die clearances, bend allowance, cutting forces, press tonnage requirements, and practice in building a complete functional die. The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification exam for Materials, Measurement and Safety will be administered during this course.
